However, I chose this picture of a Robin in the back garden as May’s picture of the month! The great thing about photographing Robins is how friendly they are. They come right up close and seem to love to pose for the camera! This was my favourite shot of about 85 pictures I took in total.

Taken at f/5.6. I had the ISO way up at 800 to get a fast enough shutter speed of 1/250th to prevent blur from the birds natural twitchy movement.

  1. I love taking images of birds, too, but I usually don’t get the detail that you have here. Great colors…..love the way the 5.6 blurs the background nicely. Wow, ISO of 800 and no visible noise—terrific—what camera are you using? Will have to approach some of our robins here–before they fly south.

  2. Robins are such lovely friendly birds and a delight to photograph. They always come out when doing gardening to feast on the worms you dig up.

My camera is an Canon EOS 30D which performs rather well at high ISO. It’s a couple of years old now and some of the more modern cameras handle high ISO a lot better but nevertheless the 30D is a wonderful camera.
