During the winter months, the boats on Lake Winnipesaukee are replaced for cars, snowmobiles and even aircraft! We went for a 64 mile drive around the frozen lake and finished the journey off in Alton at the southern tip to watch the winter fun!
How amazing – makes our snow and ice look a bit pathetic!
Are those aeroplanes taking off and landing on the actual lake?
Yep. When we were there someone said the ice on the lake was 12 inches thick. Apparently they turn part of the lake into a runway each year when it freezes over. There were certainly plenty of light aircraft using it to take off and land.
