On December 17th we adopted a dog from a rescue shelter in Maine. The dog is a lab mix and came originally from a southern kill shelter and was a day away from being put down. Unfortunately due to substandard breeding laws in the south and no requirement to get dogs spayed or neutered it leads to a high population of unwanted dogs ending up in “High Kill Shelters” where they are lucky to last a week before being put down if someone does not come forward and rescue them. Unfortunately a lot of these shelters will “clean house” right before Christmas so they do not have to look after them during the holiday period.

We drove up to the dogs temporary foster home in Camden, Maine to see it before adopting and were not disappointed!

She has been with us now for 10 days and has settled in nicely. She currently sleeps in a crate in our room and gets plenty of walks and exercise during the day. She travels well in the car and aside from a couple of accidents she is well potty trained.

We called her “Toffee”. Here are some pictures and video of the new addition to our household!
