Yesterday, we took a drive down the famous Kancamagus highway from North Conway to Lincoln to check out the fall foliage. The foliage on the higher elevations was past peak but was still very good in other areas. We stopped at the entrance to Loon Mountain to take the majority of my foliage pictures.

This bridge is at Lake Chocorua in Tamworth, NH. We always stop here on the way up to the white mountains.

A bridge on the Kancamagus Highway:

Last weekend was another leaf peeping opportunity as most of the state was displaying peak foliage! We took a drive out to the Monadnock region to take in the autumn colour.

We spotted this heart shaped tree near the apartment before we left.

One of our first stops was at Otter Brook Dam in Roxbury, NH. The dam is part of a flood control network to protect the city of Keene from flooding from the Connecticut River.

A familiar site all over New England are covered bridges. This one is Coombs Covered Bridge in Winchester, NH:

A street which leads to the covered bridge.

On Sunday morning on my way into Keene I noticed an early morning mist at Wilson Pond in Swanzey.

Later the same morning we went for a picturesque walk around Goose Pond in Keene. The fall colour was very pretty and the setting, very peaceful.

I would not like to be anywhere near this tree when the beaver returns!

A beautiful Blue Jay made an appearance before we returned home. They are quite common in the state but I always seem to be without my camera when I see one! Was very happy to have captured this one.

And my favourite photo from the day, also from Goose Pond in Keene.

We travelled up to North Conway today to do some outlet shopping. After we were done spending all our money we set out in search for covered bridges. Well I say search, it didnt take much searching as I recently programmed 2150 of them into my Garmin satnav! We visited 4 bridges in total including one which had been converted into a gift shop and another which was no longer sat over a river! The first bridge we visited was Bartlett Bridge which is now privately owned and serving as a gift shop. I did not stop to take a picture as the bridge looked somewhat dissapointing in it’s new role.

Whittier Bridge was the second of the bridges we visited. It had been removed from its rightful position over bearcamp river to the west bank of the river for restoration. The work is due to be completed in 2010 and will cost an estimated $632,000.

Saco Bridge is located in Conway Village. It was built in 1890 at a cost of $4000 and is 224 feet in length.

On the way back home we re-routed via Albany to see the appropriately named Albany Bridge. This bridge was built in 1858, it is 120 feet in length and in my opinion was the prettiest of the bridges we saw today. A quick search on Google finds some really stunning pictures of the bridge in the fall colour. We shall have to take a trip back next year to get some leafy shots!
