More Foliage at Pease

The foliage at Pease is looking pretty good still. These trees were all yellow a few days ago but are now orange turning to brown. The overcast skies naturally saturated the colors and made for some nice photos. It was peaceful taking pictures in the light rain, except for the occasional C-5 overhead doing touch and go’s!

The foliage around the airport is currently looking very yellow! I stopped at the side of the road and walked into the woods to do some leaf peeping and take some shots with my failing 17-85mm lens. It has been playing up so much recently that I consider myself very lucky to have got these photos.

Fall Colour at Loon Mountain

Yesterday, we took a drive down the famous Kancamagus highway from North Conway to Lincoln to check out the fall foliage. The foliage on the higher elevations was past peak but was still very good in other areas. We stopped at the entrance to Loon Mountain to take the majority of my foliage pictures.

This bridge is at Lake Chocorua in Tamworth, NH. We always stop here on the way up to the white mountains.

Halloween and Fall Decorations

The stores are awash with Halloween and fall decorations and fake graveyards and skulls and bones are cropping up all over the neighbourhood!

Not to be outdone by the neighbours, we bought a couple of decorations for the front garden.

Downtown Portsmouth Colour

The colour is peaking in the seacoast area and although a lot of leaves have fallen to the ground, there is still a lot of colour on the trees. At lunch I had a walk around the Strawbery Banke area of downtown Portsmouth to take some photos.

Dover Apple Harvest Day

Today was the annual apple harvest day in Dover. A number of vendors attended selling crafts, jewelry, apple and pumpkin themed food and drinks and plenty of fall merchandise.

The autumn colour in Dover was looking good and the weather was kind. The event drew big crowds as over 35,000 people descended on Main Street.

Fall Foliage in The Great North Woods

The fall foliage in the Great North Woods generally peaks a couple of weeks before the White Mountains. I had heard on NH.com that the colour up there was peaking right now so we booked an Anniversary trip to Pittsburg to spot moose and do some leaf peeping while we were there!

As we passed through the white mountains it was evident that the leaves were starting to turn. In another week to two weeks it should be peaking.

The city of Berlin, NH is one of the first towns as you enter the Great North Woods. The colour here was pretty much peaking.

The sun disappeared at this point and the weather stayed gray and overcast for the rest of the weekend.

Dixville Notch.

The colour along “Moose Alley” (Route 3) was spectacular. We only saw 6 moose on this trip but on this occasion the colour was the highlight of the weekend.

Magalloway Logging Road, leads miles into the woods from Moose Alley.

At the northern end of “Moose Alley” is the Canadian Border. Previously they allowed cars to turn around at the border entry point but this new sign has been placed at the 3rd Connecticut Lake for turnarounds. I am assuming you are still allowed to continue on to the border and park if you want to do the hike to the 4th Connecticut lake which starts behind the US Border house.

Our trip to Pittsburg, NH was certainly the prettiest one so far. The fall colour was spectacular and very hard to portray easily using photographs. We only saw 4 moose on this occasion. Bull moose are fully racked at this time of the year so it would have been great to have seen and photographed one. That coupled with the amazing colour would have made for a very nice photo! We shall try again next year I am sure and there is still a chance I might see one along the Kancamagus Highway before the fall is done.

Colour Turning

The most colourful season of the year is almost here. Autumn (Fall) colour in New England is famous the world over and each year thousands of people travel to the region to see it. This year I hope to capture more fall colour than I have done so before and travel to new areas to capture it. Right now the leaves are beginning to turn and this weekend I was able to capture some images in the Monadnock region.
