In almost 3 years of living on the NH seacoast I have not got up early enough to take a drive to the beach to see the sunrise. After seeing the beautiful sunrise in Bar Harbor not too long ago we decided to get up early today and see one from Rye Beach.

Something tells me I will do this more often in future. The colours changed so many times from 15 minutes before sunrise to minutes after.

About 10 minutes before sunrise:

Minutes before sunrise:

Sunrise:

The sun clears the horizon:

Wide angle shot of the sunrise:

Truly amazing!

On our way back from York, Maine tonight I drove to the Seacoast Discovery Center and caught a really nice sunset across Great Bay. This location is less than 5 minutes from our house. I will definitely be back!

It was Martin Luther King day today so Meghan met me for lunch and we took our sandwiches to the beach.

While watching the ocean we noticed a group of seals sat on one of the rocks close to the shore. I was at full zoom to get some of these shots. The ocean was pretty calm but very cold. The images make it look a little warm with the haze in the distance but I can assure you it was a very chilly 17 degrees Fahrenheit (-8 Celsius)!

The tower was built during WW2 to help defend the New Hampshire coastline and the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

The tower was opened once last year but had been cleaned and restored to open today for Memorial Day. The tower may be opened again this year for July 4th.

The tower was 7 stories and provided some good views of the NH coastline looking south.

One of the perks of living and working on the New Hampshire seacoast is the easy access to lots of tasty seafood! I took a trip down to Petey’s Summertime Seafood and Bar on Ocean Blvd. in Rye, NH at lunch today for one of their lobster rolls. Their lobster rolls are the best I have tasted on the seacoast. At $19.61 (including meal taxes) the price is high but the size of the sandwich and quantity of lobster meat still makes it a much better deal than you find at other places.
